It's always fun to discover new stuff anyway. :D

Kate Boy: Midnight Sun, Northern Lights, Higher
Zynic: Dead End, Mourning Light, Escape Artist
Say Lou Lou: Better In The Dark, Julian
Passion Pit: I'll be alright, Sleepyhead

There's a lot acctually even lately, got a feeling at least also popmusic got a bit better. Happy about that.

None of that stuff on CV's is top 40's pop. He gave some pretty good synthpop recommendations.

^ The top 250-300 is where the real gems are. :P
And I get it, it's much different from "shiny toy guns, bella lune, the cruxshadows" I imagine which have more rock or gothic in them. To each there own taste of synthpop, that's why sharing is so nice too.

i guess i got the wrong idea about synthpop then. maybe synthpop isnt what i will like then if it doesnt sound like TBM which i know cant be duplicated their sound is too unique but i guess i am looking for that gothic element. I saw TBM put synthpop as their genre on their facebook so i figured anything of that genre would atleast sound close to their sound.

TBM's sound is (to me) impossible to replicate. They're a mixture of many things, including goth pop and synthpop. Ladytron is an excellent example of synthpop with a 'darker' edge. I'd also give IAMX, La Roux, and The Knife a try. If you don't like any of these artists's sounds maybe synthpop isn't your thing.

You might like Ashbury Heights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwB5-1Lx3zk

And if you change your mind and decide to check something from the 80's I'd strongly recommend Talk Talk

I'd definitely have to agree with you and second your recommendations here darkholiday (I love them all!) You and AdamThing are also bang on when saying that TBM's sound can't be replicated. The amount of Google results for '...bands that sound like The Birthday Massacre?' seem endless - with little more than a handful of the same band names referenced each time. I've often wanted to know the answer to this very question myself but can't find myself agreeing with any. That just shows what a unique group of musicians we have here.

I guess synthpop is just one element of the TBM soundscape (new wave, gothic rock and metal are also a part of the mix.) I wouldn't say the suggestions below match their material either (or are all strictly 'synthpop' - Clear Vision covered some great examples already) but in some way, perhaps they're most similar via the mood each band's music aims to create:

Curve (influential - Dean Garcia also connects the dots to other bands like SPC ECO and The Secret Meeting/Collide which are worth checking out too.)

Psychic Rites (their EP 'Singularity' was one of my favourite releases of last year. So, very current. Also very filmic in nature - sci-fi and horror-esque. Listen to the song 'Blood Sacrifice' as the synths alone sound like they could have been used as a TBM website loop! I'd also recommend them to anyone who likes The Knife's Silent Shout.)

theStart (pop sensibilities, punk demeanour and synths galore. Their second album 'Like Days' was darker than their debut but worth checking out everything they've released if not a fan already.)

Mankind is Obsolete (I hadn't listened to them in about 13yrs but their most recent album 'Mobius Loop' really surprised me! It carries some great synth-laden tracks that are probably dark enough for your tastes. Addictive listening. Singer Natasha Cox also has a similar gravelly pitch/growl to Chibi when songs shift into something a little heavier. Check out 'Writing on the Wall' or 'Lucifer's Song'.)
