the new album is excellent. it sets a mood and stays coherent all the way through. the sound is more experimental yet familiar and it's a refreshing take on their own unique sound.

this will likely be a polarizing album especially for those looking for more of the same but if you understand they were going for i think you will enjoy it. most bands fail at pulling off concept albums, TBM nailed it.

now i wish my hearing would heal soon so i can see them live in november.

Unfortunately, I don't like it as much right off the bat as I did either WWS or P&N. Each of those had like exactly 2 songs I didn't like, for this album, there's like 4.

What in the WORLD would make you call this a concept album?

Within Temptation's The Unforgiving was a concept album. This is just an album.

I don't think the quality slipped. I think it's a matter of sound evolving that doesn't sit well with some fans, that's not a question of quality slipping.

You would have a point if it wasn't for songs like In This Moment, which to me, has a chorus that sounds like something completely generic that anyone and their mother could have created and stuck in their song. I've always liked that TBM sounded unique, and like nobody else could even try to copy them.

You just admitted that it's a personal opinion. Quality isn't of relation to a personal opinion I could say I don't like Dr. Dre's new beats,
but that doesn't mean that there is no quality in them. There's just something that doesn't fit with me.

all these sacreligious comments! damn!

its personal preference. i appreciate any evolution in sound; sometimes its not exactly what you or i would want but its a necessity in the evolution of the band. music = art and thus what you like, may not appeal to others.

and even if they are (forgive me father) sounding generic at all, they do it better than anyone else.

by the way, i wasnt aware this was any more conceptual than their previous albums. did i miss something?

Dude, that's your opinion. In my opinion, the quality is definitely there.

I didn't say it was a bad thing at all, pop music is fabulous.

And I suppose it is if you put it like that :P
but TBM usually do this thing where they go:
Instrumental, verse, chorus, instrumental, verse, chorus, bridge, LONG INSTRUMENTAL and then maybe another chorus
as opposed to
verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus.
I meant they have a LOT of instrumentals in their music, it's an equal feature to the vocals (but was more dominant in N&N and Violet)
And the songs are longer than the typical pop song length (3:00-3:30)
