Agreed for the most part. I still need time to let some songs grow on me, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Leaving Tonight and Calling are the best songs on the album and you will all deal.

OK, I've listened to it quite a bit now...It's really good. It seems a bit deeper than what they were trying to do with P&N. It's like a natural extension of the first couple songs of Imaginary Monsters...very well done. Not an album written with a focus on live performance of the songs perhaps? Impressed by that.
I just hope they aren't pushing Chibi too hard, she needs to recover before doing a big tour. We could've waited till spring. Really. Oh, ...song I like.... In This Moment It has that swelling backdrop to a descending melody....something I love about Unfamiliar and To Die For. Awesome stuff. Last edited by Ender; 10-16-2012 at 08:43 PM. |

^ All nicely said! I agree - that's what I love about In This Moment and those other songs as well.

Ladies and Gents,
I think The Birthday Massacre have outdone themselves with Hide and Seek. This may be their finest work to date. I'm not just saying that because its new either. This is just such a new level for them. It almost doesn't seem like it's the same band, yet you know it is because the sound, style, presentation, and feel is both unmistakable and clearly defined. How can 36 minutes feel like an elongated classical movement? Genius. Plain and simple... They nailed it. End of story.

I disagree. I have yet to reach the level of excitement about this album that I had for WWS and P&N when I first heard them.
Down, Play With Fire, One Promise, and In This Moment are all subpar. That leaves 6 songs, one of which is just a 2 minute attachment to the previous song, which makes 5. 5 really good songs. This album to me is basically just a nice little EP and I am already at the point where I'm awaiting new material from them because of it. |

Any album with 5 really good songs on it is a really good album to me.
My cut off is actually about 3 songs. If I like 3 songs on an album, that's enough for me to be pretty satisfied with an album. |

That is exactly what is wrong with the music recording industry today. I mean Ozzy Osbourne's 1981 album Diary of a Madman from beginning to end had tracks that I adored. It was a great album. I recently got his 2010 album Scream. The only song I know and enjoy from that album is "Scream". Even if I liked two other songs or four other songs on there, it's bullshit. This is why iTunes and Amazon are so popular with buying individual tracks. iTunes didn't kill the album, the music recording industry killed the album by going from a collection of masterful hits towards a amalgamation two to four radio hits with a minimum of seven dead air fillers. Who wants to drop 12-20 dollars on an album if you only like three songs? This is not a slant at you Ender, you very well have the right to your opinion, but I think we've been conditioned to believe that 3 hits makes an album. |

I really like H&S from beginning to end but that's just my opinion.
I try to keep in mind when I listen to a new album that just because I don't like a song doesn't mean that it's bad or just filler. It just means it didn't do anything for me. With TBM, for example, I like all but one or two songs they've done. I don't really like Broken. That doesn't mean I think it's a bad song (it's very well-written), it just doesn't work for me. |
