I was in the Saturday listening session, and I have to say, it was amazing! Unfortunately I can't tell you what each song was like. We got to listen to the album twice through, but I'm one of those people that has to listen to songs a lot before I can remember their words or how they go. In fact, I didn't know the song names until afterwards, when someone else posted them up. I can tell you there was a song with lyrics like, "I'll steal the stars from your eyes." I loved that one. There's also a baby elephant in one song (per Rhim & Chibi, lol).

Also the 2nd-to-last song is a "slow" song, and the ending song is a bit faster in tempo. As Terry the manager said, "to make you want to go back and re-listen to the album again!" There were no linking sound effects between songs, though. I'm about 99% sure that they were left off this album, which is my only disappointment with it, as I love those. But those sounds not being present did not detract from how much I liked this album.

I did mean to ask those in the session if they also posted here in the forum (currently or in the past). I forgot, though.

One of the guys in the first listening session made a video of his experience:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izlNnbCUxls

And this site, where he posted his thoughts on the album, the day with the band (and us crazy fans), and some trivia. The magic trick mentioned is in the video My hand-mouth makes a guest appearance in the "Chibi-vision" triangle menu thing

^ Thank you for sharing that here! Everyone needs to check out that video and that website. Big thanks to Jared

Today the lyrics for the new album's 5th track Counterpane have been released. And about 15 minutes (from this post) the new track will be available to listen on PledgeMusic!!!

Strange changes come with age.
Some things disappear in a day, and some things slowly fade.
And you and I are like the ink staining all the other pages.

We're at the edge of the world again. A step back is a step forward.
Been here before, when we were innocent. I saw the signs, but I couldn't find the words.
Now we're stuck in a wasteland. Everyone in the dark adores you.
So much regret for things I never said. I should've left. I always meant to.

Shame. There's nobody to blame.
People interlace by mistake sometimes. It hurts to walk away,
But we're just cheap toys perpetually breaking.

We're at the edge of the world again. A step back is a step forward.
Been here before, when we were innocent. I saw the signs, but I couldn't find the words.
Now we're stuck in a wasteland. Everyone in the dark adores you.
So much regret for things I never said. I should've left. I always meant to.

We're at the edge of the world again.
Time will never heal the distance.
Been here before, when we were innocent.
Building this modern prison for so long.

We're at the edge of the world again. A step back is a step forward.
Been here before, when we were innocent. I saw the signs, but I couldn't find the words.
Now we're stuck in a wasteland. Everyone in the dark adores you.
So much regret for things I never said. I should've left. I always meant to.

Guys, I can't stop thinking about this, I need an answer! Why is the single called 'Counterpane'? The only definition of Counterpane I know of is something like an antiquated blanket. Counterpanes are not mentioned or referenced in any way in the lyrics of the song.

The only reason I can think of that would fit the tone of the song is that they intended it to have a double meaning, firstly that a literal Counterpane conjures images of something that has a strong sentimental value, and something that could be used by two people.

Secondly, I feel like they may have intended it to bring to mind 'Counter-pain', in a way meaning 'countering the pain' or 'numbing the pain'. The song clearly has both elements of sentimentality as well as regret and emotional pain.

I dunno. I might be totally wrong on that. It definitely stood out to me on the tracklist as the most intriguing title (along with 'All of Nothing', I'm interested to see how they use that in the lyrics). Would love to hear other peoples thoughts on the meaning.

^ Someone in a TBM group on facebook mentioned how Counterpane means a bedspread. I'm thinking it has a more mature meaning having to do with a bed, if you know what I mean...haha. Especially since it's been said this is a more mature album. That's the only thing I can think of when it comes to this song and a bedspread.

It is so interesting you are bringing up the double meaning with "counter-pain" I have thought this too and just a few days ago was talking to someone about this. I definitely think this title has a double meaning with meaning a bedspread (reference to a mature relationship) as well as pain from an encounter and/or from being on the opposite side (such as a break-up)

Some lyrics that go with this:

Strange changes come with age.
age being the keyword here. Older, more mature.

Been here before, when we were innocent.
"were innocent" Another reference to being older and more mature now.

People interlace by mistake sometimes. It hurts to walk away,
But we’re just cheap toys perpetually breaking.

this fits with the double meaning of being in pain

Time will never heal the distance.
also fits with the double meaning of being in pain

These are just my thoughts. Really happy someone else has thought about the double meaning with this song :D

Ooh I like this!! Didn't think about it in this way. I think "countering the pain" could definitely be another meaning too!

I also wanna mention that there's some references to other songs, one that stood out to me right away was "we're on the edge of the world again"
First time being in the song Beyond?

"Out into the dark I stared
Out here at the edge of the world
I made a promise to never grow up and
Forget all the days here when I was so young"

Some parts of those lyrics could tie into Counterpane too.
Beyond: "Out into the dark I stared"
Counterpane: "Everyone in the dark adores you."

Beyond: "I made a promise to never grow up and
Forget all the days here when I was so young"
Counterpane: "Been here before, when we were innocent."

Maybe I am just over analyzing but it seems there are so many references! Can't wait to hear all the other songs and analyze those lyrics in comparison with other albums lyrics too.

Interested if anyone else has any thoughts about the meaning of Counterpane!

Tried looking for that font, couldn't find any exact match. (I used FontSquirrel and Fonts.com.) I wouldn't be surprised if the font was custom made by them or they commissioned someone to make it for them.

Haha, I thought about that meaning of Counterpane too, but didn't know how to phrase it. It definitely gives off that vibe of intimacy.

And one of my favourite things about TBM is the references to their previous lyrics, even if it may be unintentional. I thought a lot of Superstition had 'the edge of the world' in it, even if the lyrics weren't explicitly mentioned, so I was surprised to hear it in Counterpane.

"The past and the future bleed into the world below"
"Because in the world below I was always alone"
Those lyrics as well as the ones in Beyond reminded me of the lyrics in Counterpane.

I'm also stoked that Under Your Spell will be more intimate and apparently relationship focused, my favourite TBM songs were always the 'break up' sounding ones like Forever, Always, Need etc.

Aw, bummer! >.< Alright. Thanks though! Glad I'm not the only one to wonder about that
